080392 Parentheses - An interruption of continuity; an interval. "This is one of the things I wasn't prepared for — the amount of unfilled time, the long parentheses of nothing" (Margaret Atwood). “For every period of time when you exist, short or long, there is a temporal part of you that exists only then. And for any temporal parts of any objects whatsoever, there is a larger object made up of just those parts.” - John Locke "Every time I enunciate 'I', even in my thought, an identity is assumed, and this identity is itself not simple, but a figure of a complex gathering of personal and impersonal histories, texts, discourses, beliefs, cultural assumptions, and ideological interpellations...it is not an artifact but a process." - Richard Dyer

Oh sweetheart, put the bottle down. You've got too much talent.
on certain days it awes me; the fact that i've not existed for the past millions of years, or even just the past 2000 years. being absolutely unconscious. (so why does death scare me?) the great amount of things that have happened and i was not a part of. of all the lives i could have led, it is this one i lead. of all periods of time which i could have existed in, it is this period of time which i live. this peculiar period of about 70years allocated to me makes me feel special. and so are all the people i meet in this lifetime. -- this belongs to the previous post on the notion of a/true love. true love is usually used to refer to a special someone or the other half, and usually follows after the word 'one'. however, i would think that the truest meaning of it (pun unintended) is a reference to an emotion; the most unwavering form of human love. why is the reference to a special someone as the One True Love inaccurate, you ask. here, let me present to you some situations which only i have the time to think of. 1) what if your true love lived halfway around the globe in an exotic and abandoned island where you have one out of 2019803927891471928 chances to visit? 2) what if your true love happened to live in some other period of time, such as the Renaissance of the 12th century? maybe Beethoven/Adolf Hitler/Isaac Newton/Mother Theresa was your true love, you never know. 3) worse, what if your true love was aborted before birth, and never lived to see the daylight or your beautiful face? 4) even more unimaginable is, what if your true love happened to be your brother/sister, father/mother, son/daughter, and you could never find out? if so, how would anyone know that there isn't a one true love out there for him/her anymore? is the person doomed never to find a person who truly loves him/her? hence i would think that true love should not be used to refer to a certain someone, because it is misleading. it should refer to an emotion instead, just because it seems more rational and likely. in your lifetime, you could meet many people, but not all will show you true love or cause you to experience the interminable bliss of true love. this also means that love is not about the search of that one particular person who holds the key to your heart, but it is the search of that feeling with someone, anyone, which will compel you to make the world's craziest decision to spend the rest of your life with him/her. - these are merely my guesses, i hope you are not silly enough to believe all of it.
