Parentheses - An interruption of continuity; an interval.
"This is one of the things I wasn't prepared for — the amount of unfilled time, the long parentheses of nothing" (Margaret Atwood).

“For every period of time when you exist, short or long, there is a temporal part of you that exists only then. And for any temporal parts of any objects whatsoever, there is a larger object made up of just those parts.” - John Locke
"Every time I enunciate 'I', even in my thought, an identity is assumed, and this identity is itself not simple, but a figure of a complex gathering of personal and impersonal histories, texts, discourses, beliefs, cultural assumptions, and ideological interpellations...it is not an artifact but a process." - Richard Dyer

what good is it to give away all of your time to everyone else but yourself? why is company so prized and solitude so understated? what is the value of myself? why cant we see that the only way to love ourselves is to spend time with ourselves?

solitude is precious, my friend. even more so when everyone is fighting to take it away from you and to deny you of it. why do you not treasure it while you still possess it, and instead persist in finding more ways to lose it? there are ways to make full use of your time without giving it away.

i am appalled by the lack of regard for solitude, especially among people my age. to be alone (in every sense of the word) does not mean to be lonely. it is about time to abandon these foolish insecurities and move on, and mature.

i've come to realise that it is often through solitude that wisdom is gained. the value of company pales in comparison, as i do not gain much from it. so bathe and clothe me in solitude. because if i were to be self-indulgent in anything, let it be this.
