080392 Parentheses - An interruption of continuity; an interval. "This is one of the things I wasn't prepared for — the amount of unfilled time, the long parentheses of nothing" (Margaret Atwood). “For every period of time when you exist, short or long, there is a temporal part of you that exists only then. And for any temporal parts of any objects whatsoever, there is a larger object made up of just those parts.” - John Locke "Every time I enunciate 'I', even in my thought, an identity is assumed, and this identity is itself not simple, but a figure of a complex gathering of personal and impersonal histories, texts, discourses, beliefs, cultural assumptions, and ideological interpellations...it is not an artifact but a process." - Richard Dyer

5P CHALET WAS AMAZING!!!! :D
it was an abnormal chalet. the longest ive stayed (the full 3d2n, my parents used to allow only 1 night zz!), yet time passed the fastest here. there were a few cock-ups, such as not being able to watch dvds cos we brought a vcd player, then last min got a dvd player, and then realised we didnt bring the dvd player remote control -.- and then before our bbq we had to wait for the rain to stop. after it did, we took 2 freaking hours (longest ever in all the bbqs i went!!!) to set up fire, we even set up another fire.. so in the end we had 2 bbq pits. sheesh. also, we didnt do the usual stuff: no cycling, not much playing of cards, no watching of dvds... yet time flew away so quickly and we all enjoyed it very much :D its amazing to see how much all of us have matured. all we were there for was fun. there werent any quarrels, conflicts, scandals, or even cliques, sexism, & groups of people doing their own stuff etc. it was just pure crazy fun together. the most amazing part was just all of us (about 20) sitting there on the bed just talking, reflecting.. just doing things together was fun enough. we all got to know each other so much more. it helps that the attendance rate was high, only 3 people didnt come i think, although people came and left in the middle. when it ended we all complained about how super quickly this chalet passed! really could not bear to leave.. sophia got emotional and started to sit on every chair in the chalet (her way of saying goodbye). and people leaving in the night w/o saying goodbye (they are sad about it too), really makes me feel super sad cos it could be 1 more month before we all see each other again :( perhaps im so emotional because i know i might not get to spend my next year with this class like the rest of them will. this suddenly reminds me of these touching lines in Saw II (the irony!) which we watched on fengye's laptop, "those who do not cherish life do not deserve to live. these people who are playing the game are similar to those who have cancer, they know that time is running out for them. after i found out that i had cancer, the world was different to me. everything i felt, smelled and tasted was different. and then there are people like you who are so busy, they do not even taste the water they are drinking." this aptly describes how i feel about my class during the chalet. i think what i felt was different from what they felt. it was abit like dying, in that you are with these people you love so much and you see them being so happy together, yet you know that they will have to move on without you after you're gone, and its only too bad that you are not given more time to spend with them. they sometimes forget this but its always always on your mind, such that even normal actions become extremely special to you. whenever you're enjoying yourself among them you know time is silently slipping away, and you will only have less and less time with them. so you want to make the most of it & you wish all of this wouldnt have to end. or wish that you werent so aware of the fact that it is ending. as love is fading from all the things that we are but are not saying can we see beyong the scars and make it to the dawn Labels: there is a time for giving up |
