Parentheses - An interruption of continuity; an interval.
"This is one of the things I wasn't prepared for — the amount of unfilled time, the long parentheses of nothing" (Margaret Atwood).

“For every period of time when you exist, short or long, there is a temporal part of you that exists only then. And for any temporal parts of any objects whatsoever, there is a larger object made up of just those parts.” - John Locke
"Every time I enunciate 'I', even in my thought, an identity is assumed, and this identity is itself not simple, but a figure of a complex gathering of personal and impersonal histories, texts, discourses, beliefs, cultural assumptions, and ideological interpellations...it is not an artifact but a process." - Richard Dyer

do people who appear sadder than others compel others to want to make them happy? do we think thatpeople who appear happy all the time deserve less effort from us in making their day happy? :/

some days i do wonder if i have a true self and if so where do i put it, how do i show it to make myself more comprehendable. some of my friends, i feel, have a different understanding of me from what i think i am like. they might actually know me more than i do myself! so which is my true self? are their perceptions more accurate than mine? or do my actions not speak for what i am truly like??

it might be better to live a life shrouded in secrecy, to build a fortress no one can enter, intrude, attack the real core. the essence of self that is like gold to be protected, shielded away from the scrutiny of others. what they think shouldnt alter the value of that one true unique treasure. if i can build a fortress why should i leave it fending for itself?

but the most sincere and determined of people will be able to break through this fortress. they need not be strong, definitely not. because the fortress, if they try breaking it, is made of lousy, weak styrofoam. it is nothing but a deterrent, a facade only the insincere will take as it is and believe. because they never tried, they will never know, and they will forever wrongly perceive. maybe not forever, if they choose to believe those who have succeeded. but what are the chances?

or maybe they would finally succeed, and realise the core is stolen already. or shared among the earlier few such that there is no more left for them.

or maybe there was nothing to begin with.
