Parentheses - An interruption of continuity; an interval.
"This is one of the things I wasn't prepared for — the amount of unfilled time, the long parentheses of nothing" (Margaret Atwood).

“For every period of time when you exist, short or long, there is a temporal part of you that exists only then. And for any temporal parts of any objects whatsoever, there is a larger object made up of just those parts.” - John Locke
"Every time I enunciate 'I', even in my thought, an identity is assumed, and this identity is itself not simple, but a figure of a complex gathering of personal and impersonal histories, texts, discourses, beliefs, cultural assumptions, and ideological interpellations...it is not an artifact but a process." - Richard Dyer

funny how models (the human ones) never smile when taking photoshoots. people dont smile anymore? i know people used to not smile when they take pictures eons ago because they had to pose for very long and stay in a formal position for the slow cameras (like the formal shots we take these days in studios). so they found it tiring to smile. maybe its the same with models... but funny how comfortable we all are with these sulking faces plastered on shopping malls, ads, and newspapers, everywhere. maybe its because we see so many sulking faces in our day anyway.

but i dont like smiling for the sake of it, and it turns out very obviously, esp in photos. i mean, if im not truly happy or smiling/laughing when you take the photo, why force me to do just that?

but there isnt someone i know who doesnt look the most beautiful when they smile. and smiles brighten up everyone's day, including yours too (i hope). they make you feel better about yourself, even though you've been a terrible person all day. instant catharsis.

convinced?

this brings me to.. my friends.

all i need is a handful of very close friends. i dont need or wish for any more. and thats why i dont bother talking to friends who are just acquaintances, former classmates who were really just classmates, ex-cca mates whom i hardly muttered a syllable to etc. i realise i dont even say hi. i dont think its unfriendly though, some do. its just the truth - we are not that close anymore, if ever. so im sorry, if, you know.

increasingly ive been trying to be as real to myself as possible. i try not to add people on facebook i dont know personally, not to add people on fb/msn unless we're really friends in real life etc. ive had enough of superficial, hi-bye friends. i dont need another of those. now i need true friends who will really be there, people i can count on, and to share any feelings with. ironically, this self-imposed shrinking of my social circle made me feel more secure and loved.

now, do you really want to know the truth?
aint tellin ya
